zImage file format

Hi all,

I am looking for information about the zImage file format. Is there any documentation for the file itself? Also, what tools are available to manipulate the zImage file? Since building the image is handled pretty much automatically by the kernel build system, I haven't found much info regarding going the other way. Specifically, I am seeking to extract the config.gz from an existing zImage.

The best info I've found so far is http://www.simtec.co.uk/products/SWLINUX/files/booting_article.html. I guess there must be some specification somewhere, but I haven't been able to locate it.

Thanks in advance for your help! smiling smiley

Best regards,
nosneros
